WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This workshop has the following two learning objectives:

3 DIMENSIONAL KNITWEAR (3 hrs)
This class is part demonstration with AV presentation and short lecture about 3D knitwear in hand knitting approach, and all inspiration process. It will be part swatch-fest and all inspiration. Present my 3D design philosophy, and gearing to your own.

Skills needed:
Students need to know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off.discovery of knitwear in a new light!

Skills learned:
Introductory lecture on several basic principles of dimensional texture used in knitwear.
Learning cast on and bind off varieties for stretchy edging and its purpose for dimensional knitwear.
Learning to work partial knitting and short rows and their differences.
Swatching a series of techniques and reviewing all the possibilities.
Optional: Make either Ginga Cowl or Moko-Moko Cowl or Goji Cowl

ORIGAMI KNITTING (3 hrs)
If you are familiar with 3D knitwear, you know there are various methods of achieving texture in hand knitting. However, in this class we will dig deeper on combining several of these methods in an effort to achieve an unachievable – use knitting techniques that offer elasticity and malleability in order to create 2 structured crisp lines reminiscent of ancient art of paper folding, or any other geometric iterations.
Students can choose to swatch or cast on and put their newfound knowledge to practice by working on either YABANE COWL or COMPLEAT COWL patterns for making their own wearable origami accessories.

Skills needed:
Knowing how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, slip stitches, decrease, increase

Skills learned:
The principles of 3D knitwear that ORIGAMI knitting based on.
Explore importance of fibers and yarns necessary for a successful origami knit
Mirror decreasing and increasing
1/1 cable variations
Customize finished accessory to taste
Specifics on benefits and drawbacks of this unique stitch pattern and the technique

MATERIALS

Bring the following materials:

3 DIMENSIONAL KNITWEAR:
For swatching:
US 6 (4 mm) needle, US 7 (4.5 mm) needle
If you choose to cast on a project, pleae purchase either Ginga Cowl or Moko-Moko Cowl or Goji Cowll pattern and bring to class
Homework: none, unless working on either cowl pattern. Work Provisional Crochet Chain cast on for either cowl of your choice.

ORIGAMI KNITTING
For swatching: US 5 (3.75 mm), US 6 (4 mm), US 7 (4.5 mm) needles
If you choose to cast on a cowl, purchase the pattern and bring to class: Yabane Cowl or Compleat Cowl
